Makansutra visit and updates.

Sunday, July 30th, 2006

Re-visit makansutra at colors by the bay to treat my buddy to local delights before he goes to Hk for his studies. Ordered the usual fried stuff of chay keow tiao, hokkien mee, oyster egg, satay and teh tarik. While we were globbing down the food, I feel the standard of the food wasn’t as good as when I last visited it with Irene and friends during her visit back here last year. My friends and I also felt the service they provided wasn’t even a bit close to being polite. We came to a conclusion that it’s most likely to be caused by the crowd that they are having at that particular time of the day. dinner time on a sunday. Makes me wonder if the IMF visitors will be in for a shock when they visit this place in Septemeber. It’s a good place to eat local delights, however, judging from the size of the IMF crowd, it may not be all that pleasant representation of S’pore service standard. Then again, the suntec convention hall makan areas will be fully reserved for the IMF people and I’m sure the service provided will be far more surperior than what I received as a paying customer at Makansutra. It should sufficient enough to offset other bad service they receive in other places in singapore. Can’t imagine what’s the magnitude of people coming to s’pore due to this, but singapore had been preparing the service staff, the security people and many others to ensure we give a good picture to the international arena of the global city we always claim to be. So to those people out there who are preparing for this event, jia you and do Singapore proud….:P

A day of feeling down,

Tuesday, July 11th, 2006

Well, after a month plus, I’m still in my present workplace awaiting for orders to move to my new department. I have done what I wanted to do, now I’m virtually walking around. Had such a slow day at work after the SQA interview and felt so restless and useless. Emails weren’t actually flying in as everyone was busy with SQA and I had did most of the things at hand.It was really driving me insane, I tell you.(The feeling is like having a long MC and you can’t move anywhere). Only evenful thing was that I met my new OC during the visit as he was driving it. Someone well built and looks quite muscular, I think we are more or less into healthy lifestyle. should be able to click, I think.  I’m not looking forward to a good PB next year by at this kind of rate. It’s okay as, if I don’t perform,  I don’t get it. Fair enough, I thought to myself. At least I still have a job. Knocking off, I had a chat with my guy whom we sent him for cross-training. He was feeling a bit down initially, but, things are turning better. He did comment on the problems the other flight is facing and felt we are fortunate in a way. Things are changing with the "right sizing" motion passed and we are merging. So while it will ensure the guys will be of equal standing in the future, but it also meant the good life they enjoyed are going to be over. As their leader, I think it’s rather things change so that they remain competitive than letting them rot till the contract runs out. Hope they will understand. "A Leader bring people to where they should be and not where they want to be." The day ended with my dad finding out that I’m still not handling my own finances properly. Well, I made plans and it takes time to get them back on track again. It’s not exactly in dire straits but it certainly heading back to where it was a few years back. I realise the juggling of funds is in a mini turmoil after taking up my studies and trying to minise the usage of my dad’s money without any personal savings to pay for the school fees. The inherent instinct in me was to try to win some money here and there but contribution to the stupidity funds of S’pore pools had made me a bit poorer along the way. Restraints were in place though and I didn’t end up a wounded animal to a state where  Zidane headbutted that Italian.( Yes,I’m still sore about the way the Italians got him sent off). It’s common for youngsters to mismanage as long they are not accountants or in the banking line, but it’s no excuse. I have to be wiser. To repeat a mistake twice is not forgivable in my own opinion. I will not repeat it. Must be disciplined and get back on track again.3 ‘S’, Save, Save and Save. It’s always not how much you earn, but how much you save. To have 65% saving every month  will be my end state in 3 years. Then maybe I can think about how to set up my marriage funds. After a day of feeling sad, I will go and have a good sleep and surely tomorrow will be better. I’m reaching the tunnel end and I shall see daylight once again. Ming tian hui geng hao. :PPPPPP

Sat Fun + Superman RTN??

Sunday, July 2nd, 2006

Well, it had been quite a while since meeting up as a group for us, the OI 3 month coursemates. So we had an ambitous plan of singing Karaoke, having dinner and catching the latest film in town, Superman Returns. Didn’t have a good start as 3 out of the 8 turn up for singing. I sang for an hour before the next 2 people joined me. Felt like a superstar singing his own concert. Quite Tiring,man.S3010090

Nevertheless, we met up the rest for dinner at the Soup restuarant at Paragon. S3010091 Well, the food wasn’t really fantastic and the normal Chicken rice with Garlic was called Samsui Chicken at quite a high price.Have a nice chat on current affairs, WORLD CUP, good old times and how everyone doing. Some are picking up diving, some picking up degrees studies, some working in new workplace. We have a good decade of friendship now and amazing how we are still in touch till now.Picked up knowledge on hard disk manufacturing from my "sis" bf and it’s really quite enriching.Next online was Superman Returns.  It brought back memories of me watching every one of the Superman Show with my dad at the cinema. Crazy boy running around the cinema, doing some gongfu movies while enjoying the Super hero show. I remembered those days where technology wasn’t so advanced but the scenes still looked realistic. This new show was quite graphic and that was about it. The ploy was predictable and maybe that’s why it’s a bit boring at times. We know the world is increasingly getting insane, and we need superheros show now and then to ingnite the gusto in us to fight on. Maybe you are superhero to someone out there already, I thot. My dad is my superhero in my eyes as he fought illnesses, finacial difficulties and even a "always must win" wife while raising up me and my siblings. We all need a superhero to look up too and while I’m making my own story here, I will certainly shape things like "The son becomes the father, the father becomes the son" said in the show. Pick up his values and I’m all ready to be the superhero of my family. Bravo!!!
