300
Monday, March 26th, 2007Watching movies do move me a little most of the time. Had a chance to catch 300 on sun evening. here are some simple thoughts I had. The warrior king showed me the gutso, courage, and what they mean by earning respect. A leader with wit, courage and strength. The sad truth is that he actually know he’s going to lead them to death eventually. For a worthy cause as in the end, as I read on websites, this little battle, sparked off a bigger war to resist persians that had intent to conquer the greeks. A catalyst to spark off fight for freedom.
The vision of his (so said of him in the show) to sacifice for a noble cause was commendable yet tragic. Remembered he was saying to a guy who betrayed them and brought to the team’s downfall that," may he live long." Heros usually die young and the cowards live long. So is there a need for heros out there??? I think there’s a need, as they will leave a legacy. However, there’s always a choice to be a living legacy.
The last point was the impressive discipline, resilience and brillance the troops showed even though they were outnumbered. 300 vs few hundred thousand. Unthinkable and crazy, yet, with all the qualities, they held on for at least 3 days. It confirmed that working as a close-knitted team has always worked in the past, in the present and many times to come. A lot of things were accomplished by great teams as compared to great things done by a great person.
The one potent combination it showed was the great leader plus a great team can move mountains and overcome adversity. Very enlightening and re-affirms my beliefs on certain issues.
While my current situation at work isn’t as bad as what the guy faced in 300, I do worry as what he does throughout the show.I had been sleepless somehow for the past few days.(had even simple contradication of wining a team’s full respect vs just letting things flow automatically) The show had somehow made me see some light, and I can’t never match a lot of great leaders, I think I will find a way out for my current dwindling team by believing. hope to sleep a bit better tonight…. and no, I’m no hero here…just a simple man trying his best at work.
